Do vain guys envy other vain guys?

A guy who lives near me is so vain I’ve seen him photographing himself in the mirror before he goes clubbing, crossing the street specifically to check his reflection in a shop window, and wears sternum-revealing vee necks tee shirts and vests outdoors all year round. Mid 20s with a 2 year old sports car and no job (where does the insurance money come from?). Sleeps all day – out all night, every night. Never seen him with a girl, but I’ve never seen him with a boy either! He’s a good looking guy though not in shape. I’m straight and train 3 times a week and occasionally do some physique modelling. I won’t deny being a bit vain too. I don’t really know what my problem is, except that perhaps I envy his ability to wear what I would like to but rarely do because of what people would think of me. The standard answer is probably wear “whatever you want, who cares what people think”, etc – but I’m thinking there’s something deeper here - eg are vain guys always envious or jealous of other vain guys? Perhaps he envies me for being in better shape than he is? The real question is I'm straight - why do I care? Why am I intrigued? Is he a rent-boy?! What’s going on?! Any thoughts?
