Sternum piercing answers please?

I got my sternum pierced about a month ago, had a metal surface bar that was too long and it became red, bleeding, and irritated, went to a diff much more proffessiobal piercer and he had a look at it and said it was more infected then rejecting, he changed the bar to a plastic one and gave me some bactine..it's been about 2 days it's still red and is painful in one certain positions, the top hole is scabbed around the hole. Any ideas? think I just need to get it removed?
